March 16, 2001 On a Saturday afternoon, the White House's advance team personnel called to say they were traveling to St. Louis on March 18, 2001, with President George W. Bush, and they wanted Super Smokers BBQ to cater an early afternoon event at Albers Manufacturing in O'Fallon, Missouri. Officials told Catering Director Marianne Moore, the catering sales manager for our world championship barbeque team, that she would be feeding the National Press Corps, the Secret Service, and other White House staff that travels with the President.
Marianne then placed 2 separate orders with Kim Bonzo, Catering Operations Manager, after convincing Kim that this was not a joke! The lunch menu, served while the press waited for the Presidential motorcade to arrive, consisted mainly of appetizers, including:
• Ribs Cut into Single Servings • Bar-B-Q Beef Brisket • Homemade Spinach Dip |
• Homemade Cheese Dip • Chips • Veggies |

Marianne had fun teaching members of the national media how to make BBQ nachos from the offerings at the table. After his speech, President Bush headed downtown for a fundraising event for the then Senate hopeful Jim Talent. The national media stayed behind to file their stories and eat dinner, which included pulled pork, beef brisket, barbeque chicken, beans, and slaw. Many of the people fed said it was the best food that the White House had ever served them on the road!
In the words of Marianne "Everyone from the White House treated us with dignity and respect. We can't confirm or deny which plate (if any) was meant for Mr. Bush, but we do know the people who were served enjoyed the barbeque in a big way. It was an honor and exciting all in the same breath and truly one of the most fulfilling days of my career!"
